Hello Sim,

thanks a lot for your supporting words and deeds

I often realize, that the real benefit of open source is perceive wrong -
in my opinion.
Even in a famour German computer magazin, it was claimed, “as this is open
source, great - you get it for free”.
This is right. You get open source for free. But it is often forgotten,
that this is not the most important feature of open source.

The most important feature of open source - and this can not be stressed
enough - is, that you literally GET IT!

You can install open source software on your system (either “for free” or
with an enterprise support) and noone will be ever able to take this
software, this installation away from you. This now is YOUR software. It
can run forever. (Well, you probably should patch it

Compare this to a proprietary EULA. You only get the right to USE the
software, sometime for a certain time period.
Things get “worse” when you look and hosted services - software as a
service.
If the provider of 365, DUO or whatever, decides to change a feature, raise
the bill or even cease the service - you will not be able to use the
software anymore.
Thus, using open source software, installing open source software on your
machines (extended with enterprise edition or support) is probalby the best
investment into stability of your future IT landscape you can do!

I need to write a blog post on this one day…

Kind regards
